Rudy Bowles was a member of the Bobcat basketball team from 1960-1964, earning four varsity letters as a guard for the Bobcats.  During his time at Texas State he was a member of the 1960-1961 team that finished the season 23-8 and advanced the NAIA National Tournament and a member of the 1961-1962 NAIA District Playoff team. 

Rudy made his mark early with the Bobcats leading the freshman basketball team in scoring and being elevated immediately to the defending national championship varsity squad.  Bowles lettered his sophomore year and continued to develop as he became a member of the 300 Point Club his junior and senior years. In his junior season he led Bobcats in scoring at 13.3 points per game. During his senior season he was named Second Team All Lone Star Conference, player of the week once, was second on his team in rebounds, and was appointed team captain by Head Coach Vernon McDonald.

Bowles graduated from Texas State in 1965 with a degree in Business Education and a minor in History. He then returned to his hometown of Eagle Pass, Texas to teach and begin a lifetime of service, including spending 36 years as an employee for the Eagle Pass Independent School District. 

During his time in Eagle Pass Bowles has volunteered in numerous capacities, including being a  member of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Eagles Association, Maverick County Golf Club President, Chairman of the Citizen's Participation Council, Member of the airport Board of Directors, started the Eagles Pass Kiwanis Club, County Representative to the Tax Appraisal Board, member of the Advisory Council of the local district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration, member of the State Committee for Economic Development Strategies to Better the Economy in South Texas and Border Cities, Middle Rio Grande Development Council Board President and Eagle Pass I.S.D. Principals Association President.

In 1983, Bowles made history in Maverick County by being the youngest judge to ever be elected. In 1984, he was one of 8 elected officials from Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona to be selected by President Ronald Reagan to advise him on US Mexico relations as they affect the USA Southwest Border in preparation for his meetings with Mexico's President Miguel de la Madrid. After his time as County Judge, Bowles returned to teaching at Memorial Junior High School.  He eventually rose to the position of school principal, continued on as principal of Eagle Pass Junior High School, and then Eagle Pass High School, where he remains today as Principal.  In 2010 Eagle Pass High School was awarded exemplary status by the Texas Board of Education.  As busy as he was, Bowles still found time to continue his education and earned his Master's in Education and achieved Mid-Management Certification from Sul Ross State University in 1993.

Rudy Bowles is married to Maria T. Bowles. They have two children, Rudolph III and Rodney, both of whom attended Texas State University as well. Rudy also has three grandchildren Rudy Bowles IV (22), Andrea Bowles (21) and Christian Bowles (19).
