Harvey Bruns was a standout letter winner in football from 1951-53. In 1951 and 1952 he was named to the All-Lone Star Conference First Team as a center. In 1953 he was named to the All–Lone Star Conference Second Team and was team captain of the Bobcat football team. As a center, Bruns never had a fumble snap nor bad snap to the quarterback or punter. He was proclaimed by Coach Jowers to be the most vicious offensive blocker in the history of the college. Bruns is also a member of the Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame Association and a charter member of the Texas State Athletic Department Endowment Fund.
