SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State track and field team is heading to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships. The two-day meet begins on Monday and continues into Tuesday and both days of the meets begin at 10 a.m. starting with the multi events.Â

After placing second overall in the meet in both 2021 and 2022, the men's squad is looking to bring home its first conference title since 2016. The women's team also placed second in 2021 and 2022 and is looking to win its first conference indoor title since 2019.Â

There are currently six individual Bobcats and one relay team at the top of the Sun Belt for their respective events heading into the conference championships.Â

Taejha Badal has the leading time of 7.39 heading in the women's 60 meters heading into the conference meet. She also sits second in the women's 200 meters and is a part of the DMR that has the third best time in the SBC.Â

In the women's long jump,
Mathilde Canet leads the conference with a mark of 6.09m/19-11.75. Canet will also compete in the high jump where she is ranked eighth in the conference and will be featured in the triple jump.

The leader of the nationally ranked women's shot-put squad (sixth),
Melanie Duron, leads the Sun Belt in the shot put with a mark of 16.45m/53-11.75. Duron is coming into the conference meet with back-to-back first place finishes in the shot put. She will also compete in the women's weight throw, where she is ranked fifth in the conference with a throw of 19.05m/62-6.

Dominick Yancy will defend his crown in the men's 200 meters after winning the indoor conference championship in the event last season. Yancy leads the Conference in both the 200 meters (20.67) and the 400 meters (45.85). Yancy is also a part of the 4x400-meter relay team, along with
Shawn Collins,
Brian West and
Taahir Kelly, that lead the SBC with a time of 3:07.81.Â

Coming into the conference meet with the 6th fastest-time nationally in the men's 60-meter hurdles, is graduate student
Daniel Harrold. Harrold leads the SBC with a time of 7.65 and holds both the Texas State and Sun Belt record for the event.Â
