SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State sophomore track and field athlete
Lara Roberts will head to Tokyo to compete in the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Roberts' historic 2025 campaign, which features a Sun Belt outdoor championship in hammer throw and the Sun Belt women's outdoor track and field elite award, is not yet over.
During the 2025 collegiate outdoor track and field season, Roberts competed in eight hammer throw events and placed in the top five in each one.
Out of the eight events, Roberts racked up one fourth-place finish, two third-place finishes, two second-place finishes and three first-place finishes, which included a Sun Belt outdoor championship.
Weeks prior to the 2025 Sun Belt outdoor championships, Roberts competed in the 65th Mt. SAC Relays and set a personal best with a throw of 70.97 meters.
This momentum carried into the Sun Belt outdoor championships as Roberts recorded a throw of 68.84 meters to win first place. The second-best throw within the SBC outdoor championships came in at 59.88 meters.
Roberts wrapped the 2025 collegiate outdoor season with a Sun Belt championship, all-conference first team honors and the women's outdoor track and field elite award.
In the Bobcat track and field history book, Roberts appears three times in the top 10 with throws of 70.97, 70.42 and 70.34 meters, all of which were set in 2025.
After a strong showing in the West Division I first round of the NCAA outdoor championships, Roberts found herself competing in the finals of the NCAA Division I outdoor championships for the second year in a row.
Roberts is one of 14 Bobcat track and field athletes to have multiple appearances in the NCAA outdoor championships.
Roberts wrapped up the 2025 collegiate outdoor season with a third-place finish in the NCAA outdoor championships with a throw of 70.42 meters.
Fast forward to September 2025, and Roberts is not ready to wrap up her historic season. From Sept. 13-21, Roberts will represent Australia in the hammer throw during the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
More than 2,000 athletes from more than 200 countries will travel to Tokyo to compete in one of the world's biggest sporting events.
