SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team (9-4, 0-1 Sun Belt) is back in action for the first time in two weeks on Thursday when it hosts ULM (9-7, 1-3 Sun Belt). Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Strahan Arena.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with
Brant Freeman and Suzanne Fox on the call. Fans can also catch the action on the Varsity Sports Network and KTSW 89.9 FM with
Clint Shields.
BLOCK FEST
With 14 blocks against Paul Quinn, Texas State set a new program record in a game and breaking the previous mark was 11 rejections on Dec. 11, 2005 against St. Edward's. Six different Bobcats recorded a block on Saturday led by a career-high five from
Nighael Ceaser. Small matched his career best with four rejections and
Nate Martin added two. Also credited with a block was
Mason Harrell,
Brandon Love and
Tyrel Morgan.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Leading the way for the Bobcats offensively is
Caleb Asberry at 13.3 ppg while shooting 43.3% from the field and has made a team-high 24 three-pointers. Also averaging double-figures in scoring is Small at 11.3 ppg. He also paces the squad with 7.0 rebounds a contest. Harrell enters putting up 9.9 ppg and dishing out 2.8 apg while
Shelby Adams is contributing a career best 9.3 ppg on 51.9% shooting.
SCOUTING ULM
ULM enters the game coming off a split weekend at home with a victory over Little Rock and falling on Saturday to Arkansas State. The Warhawks are 3-6 away from home with a 2-6 mark in true road games. Andre Jones comes in putting up 13.7 ppg on 46.3% shooting, dishing out 4.3 apg and recording 27 steals. Russell Harrison and Koreem Ozier are averaging 13.2 and 12.1 ppg, respectively. Harrison is also the team's top rebounder at 5.8 per contest.
SERIES HISTORY
Holding a slight edge in the all-time series is ULM at 30-29. TXST has won the last six games and 10 of the last 12 meetings. Last season saw the Bobcats win all four contests with the Feb. 26, 2021 victory (58-49) clinching the program's first-ever Sun Belt Conference regular season title. Last time the Warhawks came out victorious as Feb. 21, 2019 in Strahan Arena that ended with a 63-60 score and Texas State nearly coming back from a 14-point deficit to force overtime.
