San Marcos, Texas
– Texas State played another impressive game tonight, as it fought from start to finish to come away with a 67-65 win tonight at Strahan Coliseum. The victory gave the Bobcats a series sweep over Seattle.

Four Bobcats finished in double figures. Junior Joel Wright registered 16 points, while junior Deonte' Jones had 16 points to lead the pack. Senior Matt Staff started the game 3-for-3 from the floor and finished the game with 14 points and three blocked shots, while junior Reid Koenen chipped in 12 points. It was a close game in Strahan as neither team led by more than seven points. The Bobcats trailed Seattle by four points at the half, but a slam dunk by Wright cut the Redhawks lead to two. Soon after, Koenen hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 45-All with 13:25 to go.

The game remained close in the ensuing minutes as Seattle wasn't able to go up by more than four points. It was hard to keep up with the Jones' as the game went on, and it was a dish from Vonn to Deonte' that resulted in a triple.

With Seattle up by one, V. Jones notched his second biggest steal of the game came with less than five minutes to play as it resulted in a layup to give Texas State a 56-55 advantage and its first lead of the second half. A jumper by D. Jones, followed by a made free throw from Staff gave Texas State a three-point advantage. Koenen added a trey to extend Texas State's lead to five points with 1:02 on the clock.

The Redhawks trimmed the Bobcats lead to two after a triple of their own with 46 seconds remaining. Two Bobcat free throws gave Texas State a four-point edge, but Seattle hit a three-pointer to come within one point with 15 seconds remaining. Phil Hawkins recorded a layup and Koenen added a free throw, and despite a last ditch effort from the Redhawks, Texas State was the winning team when the buzzer sounded.

Seattle had three players finish in double figures. Chad Rasmussen led the Redhawks with 18 points and four rebounds. Allen Tate added 14 points, while Prince Obasi chipped in 11 points. Seattle shot 48.2 percent from the floor, but only attempted three free throws finishing 2-of-3 from the line.

Texas State closes out home play on Saturday, March 2. The Bobcats will face Idaho at 2 p.m. Before the game against the Vandals, Texas State will honor its three seniors – Matt Staff, Vonn Jones, and Justin Tanton.
