San Marcos, Texas – Texas State will make its first true road trip of the 2012 season this weekend when the Bobcats head to Houston for a three-game series with the Cougars. Texas State and Houston will play the first game of the set on Friday at 6:30 p.m. before games at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
The Bobcats (2-2) are coming off a 5-1 loss against No. 25 Baylor at Dell Diamond on Wednesday and are looking to avoid falling below .500 for the first time since early in 2010 season.
The Cougars (3-1) swept their season-opening series against Delaware but dropped a 3-2 ballgame on Tuesday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for their first loss of the season.
Texas State has won each of the last six contests between the two teams, sweeping the Cougars in dramatic fashion a season ago at Bobcat Ballpark with a pair of walk-off home run victories and also sweeping UH at its home ballpark to begin the 2010 season.
Junior Colton Turner will take the ball to begin the series for Texas State in search of his first win of the season. The southpaw allowed just one earned run over 7 2/3 innings in his season debut versus Santa Clara in which he received a no-decision. Turner will be followed in the rotation by junior Travis Ballew and sophomore Kyle Finnegan, each of whom will look to improve to 2-0 on the season after winning their respective first starts of the season.

Versus Houston
Texas State has won the last six games its played versus Houston, including the more recent two contests in dramatic fashion. A season ago, the Bobcats defeated the Cougars on walk-off home runs in the second and third games of the series at Bobat Ballpark. The first walkoff home run came from Casey Kalenkosky and capped off a 13-run comeback over the final two innings that gave Texas State a 17-15 victory. The next day, Andrew Stumph hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth with two outs to give the Bobcats an 11-10 win and a series sweep. The sweep marked the second in as many seasons for the Bobcats over the Cougars. In 2010, Texas State opened the season in Houston with a three-game sweep at Cougar Field. The last Houston win over Texas State came in the 2008 season when the Cougars won 15-9 at Bobcat Ballpark.
