Trout Promotes Huml to Director of Hitting Development

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Austin Huml was promoted to Director of Hitting Development after serving as a student assistant coach for the Bobcats in 2026, head coach Steven Trout announced on Thursday.

Huml will assist Hitting Coach Rick Guarno with the offense heading into 2027 in Texas State's inaugural season as a member of the Pac-12 Conference.

"Austin is extremely hard-working," shared head coach Steven Trout, "he's very respected by the players and very organized with great attention to detail. He wants to coach and has a good relationship with the guys, so we can continue to build those relationships. He will be a really good coach whether he chooses our level or the professional level, and really knowledgeable about the game. He's a sponge and does well at taking it all in."

The East Texas native spent time as a student and team manager at Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas before transferring to Texas State and graduated with a degree in integrated studies in May of 2026. Huml served as a student assistant coach with the Bobcats last season where the offense recorded a program-record 116 homers, also a single-season Sun Belt Conference record, and received an at-large bid for an appearance at the NCAA College Station Regional.

Most recently, Huml spent the summer as an assistant hitting coach with the Harbor Hawks, a summer ball organization in Hyannis, Massachusetts and a member of the Cape Cod League. He was joined on the staff by Austin Wallace, the Bobcats' Director of Pitching Development and Analytics, who will also return to Texas State in 2027.
