San Marcos, Texas – Texas State softball defeated UTSA on Senior Day, 4-1, to close out the I-35 Rivalry series. The Bobcats used the long ball to capture the win as three homers propelled them past the Roadrunners. Texas State improved to 27-22, 18-9 in conference play, while UTSA fell to 27-25, 17-13 in league play.
Haley Lemons couldn't have picked a better time to register her first homerun of the season as she knocked the ball over the right field wall with two outs to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the third.
Chandler Hall joined in on the scoring as she hit the ball over the right field wall to extend Texas State's lead to 2-0. Three batters later, Jenna Emery decided to take part in the homerun derby as she blasted one over the left field wall as the Bobcats went up 4-0 after five, thanks to a double by McKenzie Baack on the previous at bat.
Hall earned her thirteenth win of the season as she fanned eight batters in the victory. Jordan Masek led all batters going 2-for-2.
The Bobcats recognized its five seniors after the game: McKenzie Baack, Jenna Emery, Lindsay Matt, Amye Patrick and Allyce Rother.
Texas State will close out the regular season next weekend in Natchitoches, La. The Bobcats face Northwestern State May 7-8 at Demon Diamond.
The Southland Conference Tournament will be held in Huntsville, Texas hosted by Sam Houston State. The tournament runs from May 12-14.
