Box Score GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Texas State softball's offense struggled as it suffered a 2-1 loss to Georgia Tech to open the Gainesville Regional.
Despite Maddy Azua tossed a complete game and allowing just two hits, the Bobcats find themselves needing a win to stay alive tomorrow.Â
How It Happened:
Maddy Azua started the game in the circle, recording her 500
th career strikeout against the first batter she faced. From there, she walked a batter but escaped the inning without allowing a run.
Aiyana Coleman was walked in the bottom half of the inning for the 110
th time as a Bobcat, tying the program record in just 110 games. Coleman is now tied for the all-time Texas State leader in walks. She was left stranded, though, after a
Kat Zarate strikeout.
Both sides put runners on in the 2
nd but didn't score, Georgia Tech got on the board first in the third with an RBI double. Texas State answered with a run of its own though in the bottom half of the inning.
Harley Vestal scored
Sami Hood who reached on a hit by pitch.
Both sides were retired in order in the 4
th and 5
th.
After the Yellowjackets reached on an error by
Kat Zarate in the top of the 6
th, that runner came around to score on a passed ball to give Georgia Tech the lead.Â
Azua retired the side in order in the 7
th to give Texas State a chance to level the scoring in the bottom half of the inning.
Karmyn Bass reached base on a single and was pinch run for by Mel Reeves but she was left stranded after a
Bailee Slack strike out and
Sami Hood ground out.
Texas State is now 38-21 on the season.
