Final Sun Belt Road Game Saturday in Mobile

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Saturday is the last road Sun Belt Conference game of the season for the Texas State men's basketball team (13-13, 6-7 Sun Belt) when it faces South Alabama (17-9, 9-4 Sun Belt). The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. from inside the Mitchell Center.

About Texas State
Thursday saw the Bobcats snap a five-game losing streak with a 72-60 win at ULM. Tylan Pope scored a game-high 22 points with 18 coming in the first eight and a half minutes of the second half. Making their returns to the hardwood after missing the previous seven games due to injuries were Mark Drone and Tyrel Morgan as they finished with eight and 10 points, respectively.

Pope increased his team leading scoring average to 16.0 points per game while also surpassing 400 points in the season. He also paces the squad in field goal percentage (54.3%), made free throws (114) and blocks (39).

Drone comes in putting up 15.8 ppg in his four games of action this season and Morgan contributes 14.1 ppg along with 6.5 rebounds a contest, 30 steals and 16 blocks. Also with a double-digit scoring average is Kaden Gumbs at 12.0 ppg. He is also dishing out 4.4 assists per game and paces the team with 37 steals.

About South Alabama
The Jaguars are coming off a 91-82 overtime win over Marshall on Thursday. They have won three of their last four games after dropping back-to-back contests to the Warhawks. At home, South Alabama is 11-4 with a 5-3 mark in conference games.

Myles Corey leads the Jaguars in scoring (14.8), field goal percentage (45.0%) and assists (108). He has knocked down 39 three-pointers and recorded 34 steals. Also with a double-digit scoring mark is Barry Dunning Jr. at 12.8 ppg and paces the squad at 6.8 rpg.

Judah Brown has seen 64 of his 84 made shots come from beyond the arc. The graduate student has knocked down 39.8% of his three-point attempts and is netting 9.7 ppg. John Broom comes in with a team-leading 44 steals and 17 blocks.

Series History
Texas State leads the all-time series 11-6. The past two seasons have seen the teams split the season series with the home team winning both games last season and the road team claiming the contests in the 2022-23 campaign.

When playing in the Mitchell Center, the Bobcats are 3-5 all-time after falling 72-55 last season. TXST's last in Mobile was on Jan. 7, 2023 by a score of 64-58. That day saw Nate Martin and Mason Harrell finish with 13 and 12 points, respectively while Morgan grabbed 10 rebounds, scored eight points and recorded four steals.
