MONROE, La. – Melanie Duron and
Chris Preddie both secured gold medals on day two of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Duron placed first in the finals of the women's shot put, with a mark of 16.67m/54-8.25. Her season-best mark set the facility record for ULM's Brown Stadium and earned 10 points for the women's team.
Preddie, for the second-straight year, took home gold in the final of the men's long jump. He recorded a mark of 7.73/25-4.5 and had the furthest jump in the field by over a foot. His win earned the men's team 10 points in their quest for the conference title.
"So far we've had very good performances the first two days," said Texas State Director of Track and Field/Cross Country
John Frazier. "We have numerous scoring opportunities on both the men's and women's side and we have to stay on point and focused so we can have the best outcome."
After two days of competition, the Texas State women's squad sits in third place with 52 total points, while the men's squad is in seventh place with 25 points.
The women's shot-put squad, made up of Duron,
Lauryn Small,
Sophia Haberer and
Carly Watts, earned 24 points for the women's squad and all finished in the top eight of the event. Small placed second, with a PR throw of 16.67m/54-8.25 and earned 8 of the 24 points. Haberer and Watts placed fifth and seventh to earn 6 points.
Michaelangelo Bullard found the podium in the men's javelin, when he placed third and recorded a season-best throw of 65.20m/213-11. Bullard recorded the fifth-best mark in Texas State history and earned seven points for the men's team.

Easton Hammond earned a bronze medal in the decathlon and totaled 7069 points. Throughout the 10 events, Hammond placed top-three in six of the events and recorded PRs in the 100m and pole vault. He secured seven points for the men's team with his third-place finish.
Victor Petrov placed eighth in the decathlon and secured a point for the men's team. Petrov recorded PRs in the 100m, 110m hurdles, pole vault and high jump.
In the Heptathlon,
Luize Opola placed fifth and recorded 5028 total points. Opola earned four points for the women's squad and recorded the second-highest point total of her career.
Jake Smith earned a single point for the men's team to begin day two in the 10,000 meters. Smith placed eighth and recorded a time of 31:43.56.

Bobcats Headed to the Finals
11 Bobcats qualified for the finals of their respective events, which are set to take place tomorrow beginning at 12 pm.
In the women's 200m,
Taejha Badal placed third and set a new PR of 23.44. Ma'khi Falkquay set a PR of 23.49 and earned a fourth-place finish in the event.
Kerris Roberts was the last Bobcat to qualify for the finals of the 200m, when she recorded a 23.80 and placed eighth.
Dominick Yancy recorded the seventh-best time in school history in the men's 200 meters prelims. Yancy recorded a 20.64 and is in first place going into the finals.
Shawn Collins earned a finals spot after he placed fourth, with a time of 20.80 and
Shedrack Akpeki earned the last spot, after he won his heat with a mark of 21.35.
Daniel Harrold set the Sun Belt Conference meet record in the prelims of men's 110m hurdles, when he placed first with a time of 13.67. Harrold also placed second in the prelims of the 100m with a time of 10.37 and set his wind-legal PR in the event.
Yancy and Collins will join Harrold in the finals of the men's 100 meters. Collins placed sixth, with a time of 10.42 and Yancy placed seventh after setting his wind-legal PR of 10.44.
In the women's 100m,
Ma'Khi Falkquay earned a spot in the finals, after she recorded a PR of 11.44 and placed second overall.
Taejha Badal qualified for the finals when she recorded a PR of 11.55 and placed fifth.
Ayesha Nelson earned a finals spot in the women's 100m hurdles, after placing eighth with a time of 14.01.
In the men's 400m prelims,
Brian West, the SBC 400m indoor champion, placed third overall and recorded a time of 46.98.
Taahir Kelly earned his spot in the finals, after he recorded a 47.07 and placed fourth.
Kashawn Baptiste was the last Bobcat to earn a finals spot, when he placed fifth overall in the prelims and set a new PR of 47.11.
Ka'Bren Mitchell will represent the men's team in the finals of the 800m on day three. Mitchell placed third in the prelims and marked a 1:52.58.
The final day of the Sun Belt Conference Track and Field Championships will begin at 12 pm with the men's triple jump. Day three will be streamed on
