AUSTIN, Texas – Abigail Parra broke her own school record in the women's 1500 meters on day one of the Texas Invitational, with a first-place time of 4:24.27.Â

Parra broke her previous record of 4:25.77, which she set earlier this season at the Bobcat Invitational and is ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference for the event.Â

Utitofon Sam was the second Bobcat to place first in an event on day one of the meet. Sam placed first in the women's hammer throw and set a new PR with a mark of 55.84m/183-2. She now is ranked first in the SBC and is sixth all time in Texas State history for the hammer throw.Â

The men's distance squad found success in the 1500 meters and took home two podium spots.
Jake Smith placed second in the event with a time of 14:48.87 and
Nathan Morales recorded a 15:17.11 to take home third place.Â

Daniela Wisniewski recorded a 12-second PR in the women's 3000m steeplechase. Wisniewski marked a time of 12:05.33, which bested her previous PR of 12:17.19.Â

Taejha Badal now sits third in the SBC for the women's 200m, after she recorded a PR of 23.49 and placed top 10 in the event.Â

Texas State recorded 10 PRs on day one of the Texas Invitational.
