Bobcats Battle Rain and Secure 22 Podium Finishes at the Alumni Muster

Freshman Lara Roberts set a new meet record in the women's hammer throw.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – In spite of the rain at the Alumni Muster on Saturday, the Bobcats were able to secure 22 podium finishes at the meet hosted by Texas A&M.
 
In the first event of the day, Lara Roberts, the No. 1 freshman in the country, set a meet record in the women's hammer throw. Roberts recorded a 65.06m/213-5 and placed first in the event. Her teammate Madison Sloan finished in second place with a mark of 56.72m/186-1. 
 
The women's throw squad found the podium in all their events on Saturday. In the women's shot put, Melanie Duron placed second with a throw of 14.61m/47-11.25 and Sophia Haberer finished in third, with a throw of 13.78m/45-2.5. 
 
Utitofon Sam continued the success in the women's discus throw, when she recorded a PR mark of 54.55m/178-11 and took home second place. Sam's mark is the seventh-best throw in school history. 
 
The men's throw squad also had a successful day at the Alumni Muster, Alberto Archundia placed second in both the hammer throw and the discus throw. In the hammer throw, Archundia recorded a mark of 52.73m/173 and he recorded a 43.28m/142 in the discus throw. 
 
Michaelangelo Bullard found the podium in the men's javelin throw. Bullard placed second, with a mark of 62.94m/206-6 and continued his streak of podium finishes in the event. He has now recorded three top-3 finishes in the javelin throw this season and is ranked third in the Sun Belt Conference. 
 
The Bobcats also found success on the track at the Alumni Muster. Dominick Yancy placed first in his outdoor 400-meter debut. Yancy recorded a 47.07 and is ranked third in the SBC. Yancy was also on the 4x400-relay team, along with Brain West, Taahir Kelly and Shawn Collins, that placed second with a time of 3:10.23. 
 
Collins and West shined in the men's 200 meters. Collins placed second, with a mark of 21.58 and West recorded a time of 21.65 to finish in third. 
 
Taejha Badal placed first in the women's 200 meters, with a time of 23.69 and is now eighth in the SBC for the event. Badal also finished third in the 100 meters, with a mark of 11.63. 
 
The distance squad had four athletes find the podium on Saturday. Alexia Tiscareno Macias placed first in the women's 1500 meters and set a new PR of 4:36.02. 
 
In the women's 5k, Abigail Parra finished second with a time of 17:38.15 and in the men's 5k, Jake Smith placed second with a mark of 15:01.51. 
 
Aliyah Simmons secured a third-place finish in the women's 800 meters, with a time of 2:16.21. 
 
Despite the rain cancelling the men's high jump, the Bobcats were still able to find success in the jumps. Chinenye Uzoh placed second in the women's high jump, with a mark of 1.63m/5-4.25 and Chris Preddie marked a 7.43m/24-4.5 triple jump to take home third place. 
 
The Bobcats return to the track on April 27, when they compete at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas.
