Bobcats Set for Loaded Weekend With Bobcat Invitational, Texas Relays

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track and field is set to host the Bobcat Invitational from Thursday through Saturday at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex, welcoming athletes from more than 60 programs along with professional and unattached competitors.

Texas State will face a highly competitive field at the Bobcat Invitational, with programs such as Ohio State, Clemson, BYU, Virginia Tech and Iowa scheduled to compete.

In addition to hosting, Texas State will send three throwers to compete at the Texas Relays in Austin. Danie Strooh (discus), Lara Roberts (hammer) and Elisabet Runarsdottir (hammer) will represent the Bobcats at the meet.

Runarsdottir and Roberts are scheduled to compete in the women's hammer throw Thursday at 11 a.m., while Strooh will take part in the men's discus Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Now back to the Bobcat Invitational, two NCAA indoor national qualifiers, Aiden Hayes and Tshephang Dankuru, will make their outdoor season debuts in the high jump at the Bobcat Invitational. Both are slated to compete Friday at 11 a.m.

Former Bobcat and NCAA outdoor runner-up Kaison O'Riley is also entered to compete in the high jump.

Ja'Shaun Lloyd, the reigning Sun Belt Men's Track Athlete of the Week, enters the weekend following back-to-back meets with two first-place finishes. He is scheduled to compete in the 110-meter hurdles Thursday at 1 p.m. and the 400-meter hurdles Friday at 7 p.m.

Texas State's strong start to the outdoor season is reflected in the latest USTFCCCA Checkpoint One rankings, where both the men's and women's teams sit just outside the national top 25. The men rank No. 33 nationally, while the women are No. 34.

Regionally, the Bobcat men rank No. 3 in the South Central Region behind Texas A&M and LSU, while the women sit No. 5, trailing Texas A&M, Arkansas, LSU and TCU.

Texas State will look to continue its momentum this weekend as it hosts one of its premier home meets of the outdoor season.

All information for the Bobcat Invitational can be found here. Heat sheets and a link for live results will be posted Wednesday evening.
