Texas State to Host Charles Austin Classic This Weekend

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track and field will host the Charles Austin Classic on March 27-28 at the Bobcat Track & Field Complex.

The two-day meet begins Friday at 9 a.m., featuring select field events, including the hammer throw, long jump and javelin.

On Friday, Texas State will also host the Charles Austin High School Varsity Classic, featuring more than 50 schools.

Competition resumes Saturday at 10 a.m. with the women's discus throw. Track events are scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay following the national anthem. Senior Day recognition is set for 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Bobcats will recognize the following seniors: Breanna Brandes, Henry Buckles, Drew Donley, Ivan Guzman, Omar Guzman, Haley Hall, Sophia Haberer, Aiden Hayes, David Mendez Serrato, Elias Palmer, Victor Petrov, Matilde Poli, Cassandra Rendon, David Richards and Kila Rodas.

Texas State will compete against a nine-team field that includes Boston, Our Lady of the Lake, Schreiner, Southwestern (Texas), Texas Lutheran, Trinity, UIW and UTSA.

The meet marks the Bobcats' return to San Marcos following their outdoor season opener at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio.

Texas State opened the outdoor campaign with multiple event titles and conference-leading marks, highlighted by standout performances from Elisabet Runarsdottir and Ja'Shaun Lloyd.

Runarsdottir earned Sun Belt Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors after a record-breaking performance in the hammer throw. 

She posted a mark of 71.41 meters, which ranks No. 1 in the nation and is the only throw over 70 meters this season. The mark set both the UTSA Invitational meet and facility records and tied the Icelandic national record.

Lloyd was named Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week after winning two events in his outdoor debut. 

He captured the 110-meter hurdles in 13.62 seconds, ranking No. 2 nationally, before adding a victory in the 400-meter hurdles, which ranks No. 11 in the country.

Additionally, Texas State has 10 Bobcats who currently lead the Sun Belt in their respective events: Paige Archer (100m), Alexia Tiscareno Macias (1500m), Ja'Shaun Lloyd (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles), Victoria Amiadamen (400m hurdles), Men's (4x100m relay), Danie Strooh (discus), Cassandra Rendon (discus), Elisabet Runarsdottir (hammer throw) and McKenah Sears (javelin).
