SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – The men's 4x400 squad of
Taahir Kelly,
Shawn Collins,
Brian West and
Dominick Yancy broke both the facility and meet record on Saturday at the Charles Austin Classic to highlight the final day of Texas State's home meet.
The 4x4 recorded a time of 3:06.64 to place first and register the fourth-best time in the country and the sixth-fastest time in Texas State history.
The same group ran in the 4x100 relay and recorded a first-place finish with a time of 39.75. The time ranks them 10th in the nation and was the seventh-fastest 4x100 in school history.
West also competed in the 200 meters, where he took home first place with a PR time of 21.02 and earned his third first-place finish of the meet.
Ma'Khi Falkquay was another Bobcat who put herself in the history books on Saturday. Falkquay recorded a 23.96 in the women's 200 meters, which broke the meet record, set a PR and earned her first place at the meet.
Falkquay also was a part of the women's 4x400 team and along with
Taejha Badal,
Kaylee Lewis and
Kerris Roberts, placed first in the event with a time of 3:45.87.
The jump squad had a very successful day two at the Charles Austin Classic as they took home gold in both men and women's high and triple jump and set two meet records.
In the men's high jump,
Aiden Hayes recorded the meet record in the event with a mark of 2.11m/6-11. This mark ranked him 11th in the country and tied the fifth-best jump in school history. On the women's side of the event,
Chinenye Uzoh took home first with a jump of 1.67m/5-5.75, which tied her PR from the indoor season.
In the men's triple jump
Chris Preddie recorded a meet record jump of 15.12m/49-0.75, which ranked him tied for 10th nationally in the event.
Precious Okougbodu took care of business in the women's triple jump and recorded a new PR of 12.54m/41-1.75, which was the 17th-best jump in the country.
The women's discus squad continued their dominance on Saturday as they swept the podium at the meet.
Utitofon Sam took home first place with a mark of 50.73m/166-5, while
Carly Watts and Lauryn small took home second and third with marks of 48.19m/158-1 and 47.77m/156-9.
Melanie Duron also took home gold in the shot put with a mark of 15.79m/51-9.75 and
Carly Watts earned her second silver medal of the day and recorded a throw of 14.88m/48-10.
On the men's side of the throws, freshman
Alberto Archundia earned his first collegiate first place finish in the men's discus and recorded a PR mark of 45m/147-7.
Senior hurdler
Kerrington Johnson made her outdoor debut for the Bobcats today and shined in both the 100m and 400m hurdles. Johnson placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.26 and placed second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.66.
Indoor All-American
Daniel Harrold made his first appearance of the outdoor season in the men's 100 meters and recorded a 10.62 to take home first place.
The women's distance squad recorded two impressive PRs on day two of the meet. In the women's 800m,
Abigail Parra ran a first-place 2:11.83, which was an 11 second improvement from her fastest 800 meters race outdoors. In the same race
Alexia Tiscareno Macias recorded a PR with a time of 2:16.70 and placed third
For the men's distance squad, freshman Anthony Sandavol recorded a PR in the 1500m with a time 4:08.55 and placed second in the event.
Ohio State transfer
Kashawn Baptiste competed in his first meet as a Bobcat in the men's 400 meters. Baptiste placed second with a time of 48.20.
The Bobcats are at home again next week as they prepare to host the Bobcat Invitational Thursday through Saturday.
