Bobcats Begin Outdoor Season With 8 Top-3 Finishes

Texas State had 12 PRs on day one one the meet

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Texas State finished competing at day one of the UTSA Invitational on Friday and the Bobcats were able to find the podium eight times on day one of the meet.  

"We had a very good first day to our outdoor season with 12 PR's, and two solid regional qualifiers in the hammer throw," said Director of Track & Field/Cross Country John Frazier. "I am looking forward to our jump squad competing tomorrow as our sprinters will not open up until the Charles Austin Classic next week."

The women's throw squad had four members see the podium today. In the hammer throw Elisabet Runarsdottir placed first with a mark of 69.11m/226-9, which is the ninth-best throw in school history and a new PR. Runarsdottir now leads the nation in the hammer throw by almost seven meters. Freshman Lara Roberts placed second in the event with a PR of 65.41m/214-7. 

Melanie Duron took home the gold in the women's shot put with a mark of 15.66m/51-4.5 and her teammate Carly Watts finished in third place with a throw of 14.79m/48-6.25. 

The fifth-female Bobcat to find the podium was Abigail Parra in the women's 5k. Parra placed third with a time of 17:36.22 and set a new PR.  

The men's distance squad found a pair of medals in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Elias Palmer won the event with a time of 10:16.82, which sets a new PR for the junior and freshman Jack Deelman placed second in the event with a time of 10:30.90. 

Michaelangelo Bullard made his debut with the Bobcats today and placed third overall in the men's javelin throw. Bullard recorded a mark of 63.44m/208-2, which is the ninth-best throw in school history.  

The Bobcats recorded 12 PRs on day one of the UTSA Invitational.  

Texas State track is back in action tomorrow for day two of the UTSA Invitational.
