Texas State Closes Day Two With Leads on Men’s and Women’s Sides

MOBILE, Ala.— Texas State track & field closed day two of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships in first place on both the men's and women's sides Friday at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Alabama.

The Bobcat men lead the championship standings with 62 points, ahead of Arkansas State (55.5) and App State (52). The women's squad holds a commanding lead with 80 points, followed by South Alabama (44) and Louisiana (35).

Texas State was powered by a dominant performance in the combined events, sweeping both the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon titles.

Sophie Daugard claimed the Sun Belt heptathlon championship with 5,456 points after recording event victories in the 200 meters and long jump. Daugard also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and shot put while placing third in the javelin and 800 meters.

Bostyn Baskin added another podium finish for the Bobcats, earning bronze in the heptathlon with 5,017 points. Baskin highlighted her performance with a first-place finish in the high jump.

On the men's side, Easton Hammond successfully defended his Sun Belt decathlon title, totaling 7,682 points to secure the championship for the second consecutive season. Hammond won the high jump and 1,500 meters while recording runner-up finishes in the discus, pole vault and javelin. His 7,682-point total set both a facility and Sun Belt Conference Championships record.

David Richards joined Hammond on the podium, placing third in the decathlon with 7,213 points. Richards posted top-three finishes in the 110-meter hurdles and discus.


Texas State also dominated the women's shot put competition with a gold and silver finish. Sophia Haberer captured the conference title with a personal-best and facility-record throw of 16.48m (54-1), securing the victory on her final attempt. Hannah Kemele followed closely behind in second with a personal-best mark of 16.45m (53-11.75).


In the men's long jump, Giovonni Walker earned bronze with a leap of 7.72m (25-4), while Isaiah Kayembe added points with a sixth-place finish at 7.41m (24-3.75).

Adam Carter added another bronze medal in the men's shot put after recording a personal-best throw of 17.94m (58-10.25). Caden Ohara also reached the podium for the Bobcats, clearing 5.33m (17-5.75) to place third in the men's pole vault.

Texas State advanced multiple athletes to Saturday finals on the track, led by Ja'Shaun Lloyd. Lloyd posted the fastest qualifying times in both the men's 110-meter hurdles (13.58) and 100 meters (10.36).


Arveyon Davis, Philip Reed and Joshua Taylor also advanced to the finals in the 110-meter hurdles, giving Texas State four qualifiers in the event. Drew Donley advanced to the men's 100-meter final after running 10.39.


Alexia Macias narrowly missed the podium in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing fourth in 10:40.29.


The Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships conclude Saturday evening following the 4x400-meter relays.
