Texas State Dominates Sun Belt Outdoor Postseason Awards

SAN MARCOS, Texas— Texas State track and field claimed seven of the Sun Belt Conference's 10 outdoor postseason awards following a historic championship performance in Mobile, Alabama, highlighted by dominant individual performances and back-to-back conference sweeps.

Senior Drew Donley was named the Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Performer of the Year after delivering one of the most dominant sprint performances of the championship meet. Donley scored 19 points for the Bobcats while capturing conference titles in both the 100 meters and 200 meters.

Donley opened the championship finals with a victory in the 100 meters after clocking 10.22 seconds before returning to win the 200 meters in a personal-best 20.39 seconds. His 200-meter performance established both a facility record and a new Texas State program record while moving him to No. 20 in the NCAA national rankings.

Freshman Ja'Shaun Lloyd earned both Men's Freshman of the Year and Men's Newcomer of the Year honors after producing one of the most electrifying performances of the conference championships. Lloyd earned Men's High Point Scorer honors with 25.5 points to help lead Texas State to its second consecutive Sun Belt outdoor title.

Lloyd captured the conference title in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best and Sun belt championship meet record time of 13.41 seconds, which also established a new Texas State school record. He followed with another championship victory in the 100 meters after clocking a program-record 10.22 seconds against one of the conference's deepest sprint fields. Lloyd also added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 20.67 seconds.

On the women's side, former NCAA national champion Elisabet Runarsdottir earned Women's Field Performer of the Year honors after another record-breaking performance in the hammer throw. Runarsdottir captured the Sun Belt title with a championship-record mark of 70.81m (232-3), which also established a new facility record.

Her winning mark would rank No. 4 nationally this season, while her season-best throw of 72.89m currently ranks No. 2 in the NCAA. Rúnarsdóttir continued to establish herself as one of the nation's elite throwers throughout the outdoor season.

Transfer Sophie Daugard was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Newcomer of the Year following a dominant season in the multi events. Daugard captured the conference heptathlon title with 5,456 points after finishing inside the top three in six of the seven events.

She recorded event victories in the 200 meters and long jump while also placing second in both the 100-meter hurdles and shot put. Earlier in the season, Daugard set a new Texas State school record in the heptathlon with 5,537 points at the Bobcat Invitational.

John Frazier earned both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year honors after leading Texas State to another historic outdoor championship season.

Under Frazier's leadership, the Texas State men captured their second consecutive Sun Belt outdoor title with 157 points, finishing 29 points ahead of the runner-up team. On the women's side, the Bobcats secured their third consecutive outdoor conference championship with 128.83 points, nearly 33 points clear of second place.

Texas State became just the second program in Sun Belt Conference history to record back-to-back conference sweeps, further cementing one of the most dominant stretches in conference history under Frazier's leadership.

The Bobcats will continue their outdoor season May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the NCAA West Preliminaries.
