Texas State Sweeps Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships

MOBILE, Ala.— Texas State track & field completed a sweep of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday, capturing both the men's and women's team titles at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Alabama.

The Bobcat men claimed the conference championship with 157 points, finishing ahead of App State (128) and Arkansas State (112.5). The women's squad secured the title with 128.83 points, outpacing Louisiana (96) and App State (80.5).

The championship sweep marks another historic achievement for Texas State under head coach John Frazier, as the Bobcats captured both the men's and women's outdoor conference titles for the second straight season. The women's program also secured its third consecutive outdoor championship.

"This was very satisfying to go out on top with our last Sunbelt Conference championships for both men and women," said Frazier. "We had so many people do their jobs as well as many people step it up and perform at a higher level."

Texas State became just the second program in Sun Belt Conference history to record back-to-back conference championship sweeps.

Texas State closed the meet with multiple conference champions and podium finishes across the track and field events.

Danie Strooh opened the day with a conference title in the men's discus, recording a throw of 56.91m (186-8). Cassandra Rendon added a bronze medal in the women's discus with a mark of 50.29m (165), while Lesedi Khunou finished fifth at 47.74m (156-7).

In the women's high jump, Kendall Lemm earned bronze after clearing 1.71m (5-7.25). On the men's side, Tshephang Dankuru also secured bronze with a clearance of 2.12m (6-11.5), while Aiden Hayes placed fourth at 2.09m (6-10.25).

The Bobcats dominated the running events Saturday evening.

Alexia Tiscareno Macias delivered a conference title for the Bobcats in the women's 1,500 meters, winning the event in 4:30.67. Macias also added points in the women's 5,000 meters with a seventh-place finish.

Ja'Shaun Lloyd captured the Sun Belt title in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.41 seconds to set a new program and Sun Belt Conference Championships record. Teammate Arveyon Davis finished runner-up in 13.76. Philip Reed and Joshua Taylor also scored for Texas State, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.

Texas State then produced a rare tie for first place in the men's 100 meters as Drew Donley and Ja'Shaun Lloyd each crossed the line in 10.22 seconds to share the conference title.

Donley later added another gold medal in the men's 200 meters, clocking 20.39 seconds to set a new program record. Lloyd followed with a fourth-place finish in 20.67.

Texas State continued to score heavily in the hurdle events as Victoria Amiadamen placed third in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.13 seconds, while Mihajlo Katanic earned silver in the men's 400-meter hurdles after running 50.60.

Paige Archer added another podium finish for the Bobcats, taking bronze in the women's 200 meters in 23.49 seconds.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Aiden Sheffield, Drew Donley, Ja'Shaun Lloyd and Ty'Shaun Lloyd earned bronze after finishing in 39.71 seconds.

Texas State concluded the championships following the women's 4x400-meter relay, where the quartet of Sai Brookins, Victoria Amiadamen, Siena Farrell and Kerrah Evans placed fourth in 3:41.20.

The Bobcats will continue their outdoor season May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the NCAA West Preliminaries.
