SAN MARCOS, Texas – Three Bobcats – Shawn Collins, Daniel Harrold and Dominick Yancy – earned Sun Belt Conference postseason awards for the 2024 indoor track and field season. Harrold was named the Men's Track Performer of the Year; Collins was named the Men's Co-Newcomer of the Year; and Yancy was named the Men's High-Point Scorer for the Sun Belt Conference meet.
At the conference indoor championships, Harrold recorded a 7.62 in the men's 60-meter hurdles, which won him the individual championship and set the new Texas State, Sun Belt Conference and Sun Belt meet records. He also qualified for the NCAA Championships in Boston with his mark from the meet.
Harrold rewrote the Texas State record book during the indoor season as he recorded seven of the top-10 fastest times in school history for the 60-meter hurdles. He also became the first SBC athlete to ever break 7.70 in the event, which he did four times throughout the season.
Harrold is the first Texas State athlete to earn the Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Year.
Collins earned Co-Newcomer of the Year after having an incredible indoor season with the Bobcats. In his first year, he was a part of the men's 4x400 squad that along with Brian West, Avery Veiseh and Yancy, placed first and set the new SBC meet record. He also placed second at the conference meet in the 400 meters with a time of 47.67.
Collins etched his name into the Texas State record book multiple times. Collins recorded a 6.75 in the 60 meters twice this year, which is the 10th-fastest time in school history and recorded a 3:08.71 in the 4x400, which is the third fastest time in school history.
Collins is the first Bobcat to win the award since West won it in 2022.
Yancy earned the title of High-Point Scorer at the SBC Indoor Championships after earning 20.5 total points during the meet. Yancy took home first in the men's 200 meters with a time of 20.93 and recorded a 6.78 in the men's 60 meters, which earned him second in the event. He was also a part of the first place 4x400 relay team.
This marks the second time Yancy has earned the title of the Men's High-Point Scorer after earning the title for the first time in 2022.
Yancy will be joining Harrold at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, where he will compete in the men's 200 meters.
