LAFAYETTE, La. –
Dominick Yancy won the 400-meter dash title and was the anchor leg in the conference-winning men's 4x400 relay while
Alyssa Wilson won her third Sun Belt outdoor championship this weekend to highlight Texas State's final day at the 2022 Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the Home Bank Soccer/Track Facility.
Yancy helped the Texas State men's team finish third in the team standings, scoring 107 points. The women's team finished fourth with 77 points.
The run by Yancy in the 400 was the fifth-fastest in school history as the junior posted a time of 46.37. Yancy's title also gave Texas State the outdoor 400 conference championship for the third straight time as
Jaylen Allen won in 2019 and 2021 while the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the pandemic.
In the 4x400 relay, Yancy staved off a challenge in the final turn before pulling away to help the group win the championship with a time of 3:08.24.
Brian West,
Taahir Kelly,
Avery Veiseh and Yancy became the sixth different 4x4 relay team in school history to win a conference championship and second in a row.
Wilson continued her dominance in the throws as she won the discus title with a toss of 54.29 meters/178-1, which was the sixth-farthest in program history. With the discus championship, Wilson became the first Bobcat – male or female – to win three different throwing implements at conference championships in a single year. Wilson won the hammer on Thursday and shot put on Friday.
Wilson, in her first season at Texas State after joining as a graduate transfer, has won five Sun Belt championships in her brief career, including two in the indoor season.
For the entire Sun Belt championships, Texas State had 35 performances score team points, 14 earn podium finishes and six of those take first-place.
Katherine Stuckly added to Wilson, Yancy and the men's 4x4 titles with her own in the high jump on Friday.
The men's and women's 4x100 relay teams also reached the podium with both teams finishing second. The women's side ran the second-fastest time in school history (44.83) while the men's team ran sixth-fastest (39.98).
Bervensky Pierre added a second-place finish of his own on Saturday. He ran a personal-best 20.64 in the 200 meters, which was the third-fastest in school history.
Lee-Anne Blake (800 meter),
Isaac Sadzewicz (pole vault), and Kelly (400 meter) each finished third in their events to place on the podium.
South Alabama won the overall team championship on the men's side (148.5 points) while Arkansas State won the women's title (157).
Texas State will next compete in the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark. from May 25 to 28. To qualify, athletes must rank in the top-48 in the region in their respective events.
