NEW ORLEANS – Capping off her time at the Bobcat Soccer Complex with the lone goal in Texas State's Senior Night victory over App State,
Kiara Gonzales was selected as the Sun Belt Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday. It is the first weekly honor in her career and the third by a Bobcat this season.
Gonzales headed home her a ball sent into the box from
Juana Plata in the 77th minute for her third goal of the season. The tally clinched TXST the No. 5 seed and a bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.
Her goal was the 10th in her collegiate career but her first match-winning goal. She is the first Bobcat player to reach double-digit career goals since Kaylee Davis in 2018.
Gonzales joins
Katelyn Chrisman (Defensive) and
Madi Goss (Offensive) in taking home one of the conference's players of the week accolades.
Next up for Gonzales and the rest of the Texas State soccer team is the Sun Belt Championship that takes place in Foley, Alabama. The Bobcats will take on James Madison at the Foley Sports Complex on Wednesday with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
