SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team stood toe-to-toe with 19th-ranked Oklahoma in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw Thursday night at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. It was the Bobcats' second straight draw when facing a ranked opponent.
Â
Tallying the match-tying goal was
Constance Agyemang. She was one of two TXST players to take two shots on the night along with
Mady Soumare.
Chloe Jones was credited with an assist.
Â
In goal,
Brooklyn Escobar made three saves with all of them coming in the second half.
Â
Victoria Meza nearly gave Texas State an early just over five minutes into the match.
Helen Alormenu sent in a corner kick that found an open Meza. However, the junior midfielder miss hit the one-timer attempt that went wide right of the frame.
Â
The Sooners would strike first when a foul was committed in the box and upheld by VAR. Hadley Murrell sent the spot kick into the bottom left corner for her first goal of the season.
Â
Immediately after the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats pressed the OU backline. That would pay off midway through the 30th minute. Alormenu threw the ball into Jones, who got just enough of an opening past a defender to send a cross into the box. Agyemang hit it the first time and the goalkeeper pushed it upwards and off the crossbar. The keeper grabbed the ball on the rebound but her momentum caused her to fall across the line to surrender the tying goal.
Â
In the second half, the Sooners outshot the Bobcats 7-2. The best opportunity for the visitors came at the midway point of the 83rd minute. A low cross saw Kayla Keefer get an open look just inside the six-yard box but send her shot attempt sailing high over the crossbar.
Â
Agyemang had an opportunity to put TXST in front with just over six minutes remaining on the clock. A misplayed ball by the OU goalkeeper saw the frame wide open. A long distance shot by the junior forward rolled just wide right of the goal.
Â
Next up for the Bobcats is the final non-conference match of the regular season on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. against Baylor from the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
