Soccer Drops Non-Conference Finale to Baylor

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sunday night saw Texas State drop its non-conference finale to Baylor by a score of 4-1 from the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

With the result, the Bobcats drop to 3-2-2 on the season while the Bears remain undefeated at 4-0-2.

Angela Gatto netted her first career goal in a Texas State uniform while Lilah Dupree picked up her third assist of the season to tie for the team lead. Victoria Meza and Matsuri Tsutsui paced the Bobcats with two shots apiece. Tsutsui put both of her attempts on frame while Meza had one shot on target.

In goal, Brooklyn Escobar made five saves with three coming over the final 45 minutes.

Late in the 14th minute, Tsutsui sent a corner kick into the box that was cleared back towards midfield. Dupree settled the ball and sent it back into the box. Gatto was able to get her head on the ball to redirect it into the back of the net for the early advantage.

Baylor responded 11 minutes when it drew a foul just outside the 18-yard box. Tyler Isgrig sent the free kick into the upper portion of the net to tie the match.

The Bears had a couple more chances in the opening half with one shot being tipped away by Escobar and the other hitting off the left post.

Victoria Meza nearly put Texas State back in front just over 50 seconds into the second half. She headed a free kick from Tsutsui towards the top portion of the frame but it was knocked over the crossbar by Azul Alvarez.

Isgrig found the back of the net for the second time on the night early in the 49th minute. A pass from Lauren Omholt deflected off a Bobcat defender to the TCU transfer, who slotted her shot into the right corner.

Nearly 30 seconds later, Tsutsui's long-distance attempt was tipped by Alvarez off the crossbar. Mady Soumare had a shot on the rebound but was unable to redirect the ball on target.

The visitors were aided by two own goals in the 64th and 69th minutes for the final tallies of the night.

Next up for the Bobcats is the Sun Belt Conference opener on Saturday. The team travels to take on ULM for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
