SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Strahan Arena to begin a four-game homestand Sunday afternoon when the Bobcats host Denver in a non-conference game beginning at 1 p.m.
After the Denver contest, Texas State will host Southwestern on Dec. 12, Lamar on Dec. 15, and Paul Quinn on Dec. 18.
LOOKING AT THE BOBCATS
Texas State enters the Denver game with a 5-2 record after winning its fourth straight game with an 80-69 triumph at Rice on Nov. 30. The victory gives Texas State a 2-2 mark in road games.
The Bobcats look to improve their home record to 2-0 against Denver after defeating LeTourneau, 92-47, on Nov. 24 in Strahan Arena. The win over LeTourneau was the seventh straight victory in home games for the Bobcats, who won their final six home games in 2020-21.
Texas State had two players score 20 points at Rice, marking the first time since Feb. 13, 2021, that the Bobcats had two players scoring 20 points in a game.
Mason Harrell led the Bobcats with 24 points for his first 20-point game of the season. Caleb Asberry's 20 points against the Owls is his third 20-point game this year.
Asberry averages 16.1 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Harrell enters the Denver game averaging 12.4 points per game.
Three-year starting guard Shelby Adams scored 13 points at Rice to mark the third time he has scored in double figures this season. He enters the Denver game averaging 8.3 points per game.
Isiah Small sat out the Rice game after scoring 11 points and grabbing six rebounds against LeTourneau. Small is averaging 10.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Denver enters Sunday's game with a 3-6 record and seeks its first road win of the season. The Pioneers suffered their third straight loss and fell to 0-4 in road games with a 77-64 setback at Wyoming on Dec. 2.
KJ Hunt leads the Pioneers in scoring with 16.4 points per game, and Michael Henn is scoring at an 11.4 clip.
THE SERIES
Sunday marks the fifth meeting in the series between Texas State and Denver. The Bobcats won a 70-68 decision in Denver on Dec. 19, 2020. The two teams first met in 2012-13 when they were members of the WAC. The Pioneers won the two regular-season meetings, and Texas State upset Denver in the WAC Tournament.
