SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team is looking to continue its hot play when it travels to take on Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the American Bank Center on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

The Bobcats are off to their best start under head coach
Danny Kaspar and best start since 1980-81 with a 7-1 record after edging UTSA 69-68 in their I-35 rivalry series at San Antonio last Saturday.
Meanwhile the Islanders are 4-4 this season after dropping a 79-51 decision at No. 6-ranked Tennessee on Sunday and falling 68-59 loss at UTRGV on Nov. 26. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 3-1 when playing in the American Bank Center this season.
Last Time Out
- In a game that saw the score tied 13 times and featured 13 lead changes, Texas State downed I-35 rival UTSA 69-68 on the road after Jaylen Shead sank a game-winning free throw with 0.9 left on the clock.
- Nijal Pearson continued his stellar offensive play with 26 points on 10-of-21 shooting and was 5-for-10 on three-pointers at UTSA. It was his third straight game in which he has scored 25 or more points, and was also his fourth 20-plus point performance in the last five contests.
- Alex Peacock scored a season-high 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half, versus the Roadrunners. He made three 3-pointers for the second straight game and has made at least two in three consecutive contests.

Nijal Pearson was selected as the Lou Henson National Player of the Week and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week after averaging 25.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game against Rice and UTSA.
• He is the first Texas State player ever to receive the weekly Lou Henson award that is given out to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball.
• Pearson earned the Sun Belt weekly accolade for the second straight week. He is the first player to receive the award two times in a row since Louisiana's Shawn Long did so on Dec. 16, 2014 and Jan. 5, 2015. Pearson is also the first Sun Belt player to pick-up the honor in back-to-back weeks since North Texas' Tony Mitchell on Jan. 16 and 23, 2012.
- Pearson is tied as the Sun Belt Conference scoring leader with an average of 21.6 points per game.
- Tre'Larenz Nottingham is averaging 10.3 points per game, while Alex Peacock chips in with 9.0 points and leads the Bobcats with 7.1 rebounds per contest.
- Jaylen Shead is averaging 6.8 points and paces TXST with 5.0 assists per game.
Scouting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
- In the Islanders four victories this season, the team has gotten a balanced scoring attack from Kareem South (12.8), Myles Smith (11.5), Emmanuel Toney (10.3) and Tony Lewis (10.0).
- During those four wins, TAMUCC has outrebounded opponents 173-122 (43.2-30.5) and maintained a +6.8 turnover margin (10.8-17.5).
- The Islanders' rebounding margin of +12.8 takes a turn in the team's three losses, falling to +0.3 and the turnover margin falls to -2.7.
- Getting off to good starts is also key. In the four wins, A&M-Corpus Christi averages 36.75 points in the first half. In the three losses, the team averages just 30.0 points.
- Sophomore guard Myles Smith leads the Islanders in scoring with 13.1 points per game. Smith also is third on the team with 14 assists and steals with nine.
- Junior guard Kareem South averages 9.9 points and leads the Islanders with 5.8 rebounds per game. He also has 16 assists and 10 steals to rank second among team leaders in both categories.
- Senior guard Emmanuel Toney leads A&M-Corpus Christi with 24 assists and 14 steals. He also averages 8.4 points per game.
- Junior Jashawn Talton chips in with 6.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.
