SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Texas State women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision in a match played with an abbreviated format because the threat of darkness at the Knollwood Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Bobcats, who played in their second match in two days and traveled from San Marcos to Santa Barbara in between matches, played in a match that featured one doubles match and four singles matches being played simultaneously.
Texas State won the doubles match for their lone point when
Eva Dench and
Alex Jones combined to beat Isabel Jasper and Natasha Gonzalez by a score of 6-4.
With Dench playing in the doubles match, each of the four Bobcat singles players moved up a spot from their normal rotation in Texas State's lineup.
Pippa Carr fell 6-2, 6-1 against Erica Oosterhout in her first career No. 1 singles match.
Ana Perez, who was coming off back-to-back victories in her first career No. 3 matches, played in the No. 2 position for the first time and suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss against June Lee.
Julia Navajo-Melendez also fell 6-0, 6-3 against Annika RIngblom on the No. 3 court.
Joy Chia Ming Ming also played in her first No. 4 match and battled Sabrina Xiong to three sets before dropping a 6-1, 5-7, (10-5) decision.
The loss drops Texas State's overall record to 4-6 this season, while Harvard improves to 10-5. The Bobcats will be looking to win their first road match this season when they play at Loyola Marymount on Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. (Central Daylight Time). Texas State will conclude the trip at Cal State Northridge on Saturday.
