SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team closes out the short homestand in Strahan Coliseum on Monday at 7 p.m. against ULM.
Entering the game, the Bobcats sport a 10-8 overall record and are 3-3 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Warhawks are 6-13 on the season, 0-6 in conference play and have lost seven of their last eight games.
Live stats, audio and video will be available for the game with Bill Culhane calling the game on either 1300 The Zone (1300 AM) or 103.1 FM out of Austin and on KTSW 89.9 FM out of San Marcos.
Last Time Out
Texas State was unable to overcome a hot shooting Louisiana squad that shot a season-high 87.0 percent at the free throw line. The Bobcats did attempt a furious comeback in the final two minutes but were only able to get as close as six.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury led the Bobcats with 22 points and seven rebounds. He connected on 8-of-15 shots and went 5-for-9 on three-pointers. With his point total, the senior moved into 15 place on the program's career scoring list with 1,107.
Nijal Pearson was the only other Texas State player to reach double-figures with 18 points with an 8-for-15 performance from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds, dished out an assist and recorded a steal.
Dishing out a game-high seven assists was
Ojai Black. He and
Tyler Blount both netted seven points.
Scouting ULM
ULM fell on Saturday on the road to UTA 71-55. The loss dropped the Warhawks to 1-8 on the road this season with their lone win being over Coppin State on Dec. 20. Monday will be their fifth road SBC game this season.
Pacing ULM in scoring (12.4) and rebounding (8.7) is Travis Munnings. He is shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from beyond the arc and 66.2 percent at the free throw line. Sam McDaniel is the only other player averaging double-digit points at 11.9 per game. His 6.9 rebounder per game are also the second most on the team.
Nick Coppola enters the game first in the league with a 2.6 assist-to-turnover ratio and third with 4.4 assists per game while contributing 9.3 points per game. Marvin Jean-Pierre is shooting a team best 51.4 percent from the field to average 9.7 ppg and has blocked a team-high eight shots.
Netting 9.2 ppg is Jordon Harris. Of his 62 made field goals, 40 have come from long distance. He paces the team in three-point shooting percentage (40.8) and steals (21).
All-Time Series
The Warhawks hold a 28-19 series lead and have won the past four meetings. Texas State's last win came on Feb. 6, 2014 at home by the score of 65-57. Of the previous 47 matchups, all but one has come as conference foes. The lone exception was the first ever meeting on Dec. 8, 1958 that ULM won 66-60 in Monroe, Louisiana.
