Women’s Tennis Travels To Sun Belt Conference Tournament

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team travels to New Orleans this Thursday to play in the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championship Tournament that takes place April 21-24 at the City Park Tennis Center.
 
The Bobcats (8-12) are the seventh seed in the tournament and will play 10th-seeded Arkansas State in the first round on Thursday, April 21, at 10 a.m. The winner of that match will play No. 2 South Alabama on Friday morning at 11:30 a.m.
 
Texas State and Arkansas State played earlier this season in Lafayette, Louisiana, with the Bobcats winning 4-1. The Bobcats enter the tournament looking to win its second consecutive first-round match in the Sun Belt Tournament after having defeated UL Lafayette, 4-2, last year.
                                             
Texas State also looks to win its second straight match this season after posting a 4-3 victory over UT Rio Grande Valley last Saturday in San Marcos. In that match, the Bobcats scored all four points in singles matches after dropping the doubles point. Ana Perez won her second straight decision and has a 5-2 record in the last 10 matches. Perez leads the Bobcats with 10 wins overall this year and is 9-8 in dual matches this spring.  Ana Perez leads the Bobcats with 10 wins overall this year after posting a 9-8 record this spring. She enters the tournament with a 8-2 record with three matches unfinished in Texas State's last 13 matches.
 
Pippa Carr also won her No. 2 match against the Vaqueros and enters the tournament second on the team with seven wins this spring.  Carr also teams with Eva Dench in doubles, and they have won their last three decisions and were leading in two of their three unfinished matches. Dench also closed out the season winning a doubles match with senior Katy Collins. Collins ranks second on the team with eight victories in singles matches this season.
 
Yadira Rubio and Ammaarah Tim had Texas State's other two wins against UT Rio Grande Valley. Rubio has won eight matches this year, including five dual matches this spring. Tim joined the squad in January and has four wins this spring with three victories coming in her last five matches.
 
Julie Gauguery leads Arkansas with six victories this year, while Sabina Jeresic and Shelby King have each earned two victories in singles' competition. Gauguery has a career mark of 22-23 entering Thursday's tournament.
