SAN MARCOS, Texas – After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point, the Texas State women's tennis team struggled in singles matches and the Bobcats suffered a 6-1 loss against Central Arkansas at the Bobcat Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Texas State took an early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches on Tuesday. Central Arkansas won its first match of the day when Xylia Chunan Xiang and Marli Van Heerden defeated
Ana Perez and
Yadira Rubio by a score of 6-2 on court 1.
The Bobcats came back to win its first match when
Katy Collins and
Ammaarah Tim won a 6-4 decision over Krizia Buck and Amiru Shimoguchi by a score of 6-4 in the No. 3 match.
Then,
Pippa Carr and
Eva Dench combined to win their No. 2 match, 7-6, over QiLi Ma and Rada Manataweewat after winning the tiebreaker, 7-3.
UCA came roaring back when they won three straight decisions in straight sets. First, Collins dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision on court four and Chunan Xiang defeated Dench 6-1, 6-3 on court 1. Tim also suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss against Buck in the No. 6 match.
In the No. 2 match, Carr jumped out to an early lead against Shimoguchi when she won the first set, 6-2. But, she dropped the second set, 6-2, before falling 6-1 in the third set.
Ana Perez also saw her five-match winning streak halted when she suffered a 7-5, 6-4 loss against Manataweewat on court five.
Rubio put up a hard fight early in her No. 3 match before Ma captured the tiebreaker to win the first set 7-6. Ma also won the second set, 6-1 for UCA's sixth point.
Texas State, which falls to 5-9 this season, will play a pair of neutral site matches against Sun Belt Conference teams this weekend in Lafayette, La. The Bobcats face Arkansas State on Friday at 1:30 p.m. before playing UL Monroe at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Texas State will also travel to San Antonio on March 30 and play I-35 rival UTSA in a non-conference match at 3 p.m.
