SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State women's tennis team returns to the Bobcat Tennis Complex for their first home match since Jan. 23 when the Bobcats host UTEP in a non-conference match on Friday, March 18, at 11 a.m.
Texas State looks to win its fifth match of the season after splitting a pair of matches against Southern Utah and UNLV in Las Vegas on March 5 and 6. The Bobcats were scheduled to play at UTSA on March 11, but that match was postponed due to rain.
The Bobcats have won two of their last three meetings against the Miners and enter Saturday's match with a 3-1 record against UTEP in a series that dates back to Mar. 7, 1991, when Texas State won a 9-0 decision. The two teams played just one other match before meeting three times since 2012. The Bobcats also won 6-1 on Feb. 8, 2004.
A LOOK AT UTEPUTEP enters Friday's match with a 7-7 overall record after winning its match at Florida Atlantic, 4-3, before dropping a 4-3 decision at Florida Gulf Coast and a 4-0 outcome at Florida International. The Miners are on a three-match road trip in Central Texas with matches scheduled at Incarnate Word on Thursday, Texas State on Friday and UTSA on Saturday.
The Miners are led by sophomore Vivienne Kulicke, who owns a 10-2 record in No. 1 singles matches. Duda Santos also has a 5-2 mark in No. 3 matches, while Matilda Tench owns a 5-3 mark in No. 5 matches. Daphne Visscher and Lois Wagenvoort have combined to win five No. 2 doubles matches.
BOBCAT NOTESAna Perez leads Texas State with five victories in singles match after winning her fourth straight match with a shutout in her No. 5 match against Southern Utah. Her previous wins came against Alcorn State, Air Force and at Rice. Her match against UNLV was unfinished.
Pippa Carr also has won four matches this spring after posting two victories in No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
Katy Collins and
Yadira Rubio also have three wins in dual matches this year.
Collins led the Bobcats with three victories in Las Vegas as she teamed with
Ammaarah Tim for a pair of wins in No. 3 doubles matches. It was just the third time that Collins and Tim have formed a doubles team this season. They are 2-1 after suffering a loss in their first match at No. 32-ranked Rice on Feb. 28.
Eva Dench and Carr also improved to 2-1 as Texas State's No. 2 doubles team after splitting a pair of matches in Las Vegas. Dench and Carr had a 6-1 victory against Southern Utah before dropping a 6-3 decision against UNLV.
