SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State men's basketball team is back in Strahan Coliseum on Saturday when the team hosts Prairie View A&M at approximately 4:30 p.m. or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's game.
Heading into Saturday's contest, the Bobcats have a record of 4-4 while the Panthers are 2-7.
Promotions
The Texas State Department of Athletics will be giving away holiday cookies and ugly Christmas sweater t-shirts to the first 500 fans in attendance. Santa Claus will also be on site from 2-5:30 p.m. on the concourse.
Last Time Out
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury scored a game-high 20 points in a loss on the road to UT Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday. It was the fourth 20-point game of the season and the second most by a Bobcat in the
Danny Kaspar era during a campaign. For the season, the senior is averaging a team-high 17.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
Bobby Conley was the only other Texas State player to reach double-figures against the Vaqueros with 13 points, 11 coming in the first half.
Immanuel King grabbed a career and game-high 10 rebounds off the bench. He became the fourth different Bobcat to record a game of 10 or more rebounds this season.
Freshman
Nijal Pearson had an off night offensively with just six points. He continued to fill up the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists and a steal. The Beaumont, Texas native heads into the contest averaging 13.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and a team best 1.4 steals per game.
Scouting Prairie View A&M
Prairie View A&M, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, will be playing its fourth consecutive game on the road. The Panthers have lost four in-a-row with defeats coming at Houston, Kansas State and then 16th-ranked Wisconsin and at home to Lamar. Their victories this season have been against Fresno State (84-78) on the road and Jarvis Christian (84-69) in their home opener.
Two players are averaging double-digit points led by Zachary Hamilton at 14.1 ppg. He has made 44.3 percent of his shots with a team-high 40.8 three-point percentage and 20 made treys. Daquan Cook is netting 13.0 ppg. The UNLV transfer paces the squad with 16 steals.
Ja'Donta Blakley is dishing out a team-high 3.1 apg. He has made 47.7 percent from the field but is making just 59.1 percent at the charity stripe. Leading the PVAMU with 15 blocks and 3.4 rpg is J.D. Wallace.
All-Time Series
Texas State leads the all-time series against the Panthers 10-3. The Bobcats have won the last four contests and six of the last seven meetings. PVAMU's last victory came at home on Feb. 4, 1988 by the score of 80-73.
When playing at home, Texas State is 8-0 with the last win in Strahan Coliseum coming on Dec. 6, 2014 (81-65).
Last season, the Bobcats won 62-44 on the road behind a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds from
Emani Gant.
Ethan Montalvo scored a game-high 18 points and
Anthony Roberson grabbed a game-high 12 boards as well.
