Road Trip to Tulsa Awaits Men’s Basketball

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After a week off for finals, the Texas State men's basketball team is back in action on Saturday when the team travels to take on Tulsa at Donald W. Reynolds Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tip.
 
Entering the game, the Bobcats are 5-4 on the season while the Golden Hurricane are 4-4.
 
Last Time Out
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury and Nijal Pearson both scored a team-high 14 points against Prairie View A&M. For Gilder-Tilbury, it was his 50 career game scoring at least 10 points. He is now 37 points shy of becoming the 22 Bobcat ever to score 1,000 career points. Pearson grabbed nine rebounds to fall just shy of his second double-double of the year.
 
Off the bench, Nedeljko Prijovic had a big impact on the game. In seven minutes in the second half, he recorded eight points, including the go-ahead basket, and four rebounds. The Belgrade, Serbia native finished the contest with 10 points, a career-high, six rebounds and two blocks.
 
Texas State stepped up defensively against the Panthers in the final 11 minutes holding the visitors to only eight points in that time frame.
 
Scouting Tulsa
Tulsa is a member of the American Athletic Conference and will be playing its final non-conference home game on Saturday. The Golden Hurricane is 3-2 at home this season and are coming off a 71-67 loss to Oklahoma State on Dec. 10. Victories for Tulsa at home have been against Illinois State, New Orleans and Oregon State.
 
Two players are averaging double-figures in points led by Jaleel Wheeler at 14.0 points per game. He is shooting 43.8 perfect from the field and is 8-for-20 on three-point attempts while grabbing 6.0 rebounds per game. Junior Etou is the other player with a double-digit scoring average at 11.9. He paces the team in rebounding (7.3), field goal percentage (57.1) and three-pointer field goal percentage (47.6).
 
Making a team-high 11 treys is Corey Henderson. The junior college transfer is putting up 8.5 ppg and handing out 1.3 assists a contest. Pat Birt contributes 8.4 ppg and 2.9 apg.
 
Sterling Taplin enters pacing Tulsa with 3.0 apg and Will Magnay, a 6-10 freshman, has blocked 14 shots on the year.
 
All-Time Series
Tulsa has won all four previous meetings against the Bobcats. The last game between the programs was Dec. 23, 2003 with the Golden Hurricane winning 84-46.
 
Three of the four games have taken place at Tulsa. The lone exception was on Dec. 27, 1996 when the teams met in the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City.
