SAN MARCOS, Texas – The first of two straight games in Strahan Coliseum for the Texas State men's basketball team takes place Tuesday night. The Bobcats welcome McNeese State to town for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
Both Texas State and the Cowboys enter the game with 2-3 records.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats played their second true road game of the season on Friday at UTSA. Texas State struggled from the field and free throw line in a 15-point loss to the Roadrunners.
Kavin Gilder-Tilbury scored a team-high 12 points in the contest. It was his fifth straight game leading the team in scoring and reaching double-digits. The senior now has 47 career games of scoring 10 or more points and 22 being the Bobcats' leading scorer.
All four of Texas State's made three-pointers on Friday came from a different player. Nailing a trey for the Bobcats was
Tyler Blount,
Bobby Conley,
Nathan Josephs and
Nijal Pearson. All came in the final 20 minutes of the game.
Pacing the team with nine rebounds was
Maljhum McCrea and Pearson. The total tied McCrea's career-high that he set in the season opener last season. Both finished with three offensive and six defensive boards.
Scouting McNeese State
McNeese State is coming off an 80-78 victory on Saturday over LSU-Alexandria at home. The Cowboys only other win has been against Southern University at New Orleans. Their three losses have been to Louisiana College (85-75), Memphis (104-65) and Purdue (109-65).
Four players come in averaging double-digits in points led by Jarren Greewood's 13.0. Jamaya Burr is averaging 12.4 points and a team-high 4.8 assists per game. Kalob Ledoux has done his damage off the bench putting up 11.2 ppg in 19.0 minutes per contest.
The four player averaging double-figures is James Harvey at 10.6 ppg. Of his 19 made field goals this season, 11 have come from beyond the arc.
Pacing the McNeese with 4.8 rebounds per game is Stephen Ugochukwu. Also grabbing at least four boards a contest is LaBarrius Hill (4.0) and Lance Porter (4.3).
All-Time Series
Leading the all-time series 32-18 is McNeese State. The Bobcats have won the last two meetings including a 70-67 victory last season that saw Burr make nail three treys in the final 38 seconds. A win on Tuesday would tie Texas State's longest winning streak over the Cowboys.
The last time the Bobcats played McNeese State at home was on Jan. 14, 2012. Texas State came out victorious 82-73. It was also the last meeting with both teams being members of the Southland Conference.
Live stats, video and audio will be available for the game. Bill Culhane will be on the call with the game being broadcast on 103.1 FM out of Austin and can be heard on the iHeartRadio app.
