Norman, Okla. – Despite coming out of the intermission with more intensity and determination, the Texas State soccer team fell to Oklahoma on the road on Sunday afternoon by a score of 0-4. The Bobcats move to 2-2-0 in the young season while Oklahoma improves to 2-2-0.
Texas State struggled out of the gates, failing to record a shot in the first half. The Bobcats started to create a scoring opportunity with 15 minutes remaining in the first, but a deflected cross pass ended the Bobcats hopes to get on the board.
Oklahoma's first goal of the game came after Caren Nelson connected with a cross pass by Zoe Dickson. The Sooners posted nine total shots in the first half with five of those being on goal.
The Bobcats opened up the second half strong as the offense recorded the team's first shot of the game just over 30 seconds in. Sydney Curry's shot however missed wide, denying Texas State of the tying goal. Moments later, Lynsey Curry fired off the Bobcat's second shot of the game and first shot on goal, but it was saved by Oklahoma goalkeeper Kassidie Stade.
With 31:16 remaining in the second half, Oklahoma committed a foul that set Texas State up for a free kick to once again attempt to tie up the match. Lynsey Curry's shot however was launched just left of the goal, keeping the game at 1-0 in favor of the Sooners.
Oklahoma proceeded to rattle off three goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest including one with just under two minutes remaining.
The Bobcats fired off eight shots in the second half compared to 10 by the Sooners. Oklahoma record all five corner kicks in the game. Texas State goalkeeper Natalie Gardini recorded eight saves in the loss.
