SAN MARCOS, Texas – After wrapping up their collegiate career by helping lead the Texas State soccer team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years,
Angela Gatto and
Mady Soumare have signed professional contracts with teams in Portugal. Gatto joins Clube Atletico Ouriense and Soumare will play for FC Porto.
Soumare scored six goals and added three assists while putting 23 of her 30 shot attempts on goal this past season in helping the Bobcats win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship. She ended her three-year TXST career with 19 goals, tied for the seventh most in program history, and 10 assists in 58 matches. Nine of her goals were match-winners, which ranks sixth in team history.
Twice Soumare was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference team with first team honors in 2024 and second team accolades in 2025. She was also selected to the 2024 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Third team and is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honoree.
"I'm happy to sign my first professional contract, proud of the journey and endlessly grateful to the people that helped me become who I am," said Soumare.
In her lone season on the pitch for Texas State, Gatto was part of a backline that allowed zero or one goal in 17 of the 21 matches in 2025 that included seven shutouts. She played in all 21 matches and started 20 of the contests while totaling 1,578 minutes on the pitch.
The Passy, France native scored one goal and put all five of her shot attempts on frame this past season. Her lone goal was the opening goal in the home match against Baylor. She would go on to be named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-Team after her performance in the classroom.
"Although signing was a fast-moving process, it matched the eagerness I had to start this experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to take my career to the next level. I'm excited about the season ahead and where this exposure will take me," said Gatto.
Both Clube Atletico Ouriense and FC Porto compete in Portugal's Campeonato Nacional Feminio, the country's second division league.
