Box Score

Postgame Notes

Ruston, La.
– Despite leading for the majority of the first half, Texas State was unable to pull out the win over conference-leading Louisiana Tech. The Bobcats fell to the Bulldogs 84-69 tonight at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Four Bobcats finished in double figures tonight. Joel Wright had a team-high 13 points, while Reid Koenen chipped in 12 points. Wesley Davis and Basil Brown had 11 points apiece. Texas State shot 38.7 percent (24-62) from the floor and 52.0 percent (13-25) from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs (21-3, 12-0 WAC) used a 10-1 run to start the second half and it provided the cushion they needed to stay ahead. Midway through the second half the Bobcats (7-18, 3-10 WAC) were able to catch a rhythm as a string of Bobcat players were able to get in on the scoring action. Unfortunately, the Cats weren't getting as many stops on defense as they would have liked.

For every Bobcat basket the Bulldogs seemed to find a way to knock down one of their own. The biggest defining point on the stat sheet was the 38-24 advantage by LA Tech in the paint, and points off the bench 41-29. Texas State did edge LA Tech in points off turnovers 25-10.

The Bobcats nipped away at the Bulldogs lead as the game went on, but LA Tech was able to pull out the win and stay undefeated in conference play.

Texas State led by as many as eight points in the first half when Vonn Jones nailed a three-pointer to force a Bulldog timeout with 11:28 to go in the half. LA Tech was able to cut into the Bobcats lead and eventually take a 29-27 advantage thanks to a jumper by Isaiah Massey. The Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run to end the half ahead, 36-29.

Raheem Appleby was the top scorer for LA Tech with 21 points. Chris Anderson added eight points and 13 rebounds, while Alex Hamilton tallied 15 points. The Bulldogs shot 44.6 percent (29-65) from the floor and 90 percent (18-20) from the free throw line.

Texas State will host I-35 rival UTSA on Saturday, February 16 at Strahan Coliseum. Tip-off versus the Roadrunners is slated for 4 p.m.
