Seattle, Idaho
– Texas State staged another comeback victory as it grabbed its third straight win tonight in an 86-83 victory at Seattle. The Bobcats had four players score in double figures, as they rallied back from as many as 12 points down in the second half to earn the win tonight at Key Arena.

“It was a great team win,” said head coach Doug Davalos. “These guys believe they can win any game. We'd like to stop getting down by double digits, but we'll take it.”

Reid Koenen had another solid night as the junior finished with a career-high 24 points and six rebounds. Corey Stern recorded his second career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in front of his hometown crowd. Joel Wright was just shy of a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Phil Hawkins added 13 points and six assists.

Texas State (7-14, 3-6 WAC) saw itself down by 12 points midway through the second half, but it would soon change. With 7:30 remaining in the game Texas State trailed Seattle (6-13, 1-8 WAC) by seven points. The Cats went on a 14-4 run over the next four minutes to take a 74-73 lead.

Neither team was willing to let the other get too far ahead as they continued to trade points over the final minutes. A fastbreak dunk by Wright with a little over two minutes remaining even had the Seattle crowd mesmerized.

Texas State went 12-for-12 from the free throw line in the final seven minutes of play, and that's what helped them get over the hump and seal the win tonight.

Texas State trailed at the half 42-35. Both Koenen and Matt Staff led the Bobcats with seven points, as the team shot 38.9 percent from the floor. The Redhawks failed to attempt a single free throw in the period, but managed to shoot 46.2 percent from the floor to gain the seven-point advantage at the half.

Seattle had four players in double digits. The Redhawks were led by Clarence Trent who had 22 points and eight rebounds. Deshaun Sunderhaus chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Chad Rasmussen had 11 points. Louis Green added 10 points. Seattle shot 45.7 percent (37-for-81) from the floor, and 20 percent (1-of-5) from the free throw line.

Texas State returns home next week to start the second half of league play. The Bobcats will host New Mexico State on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. Texas State will then welcome Denver on Saturday, Feb. 2. Tip-off versus the Pioneers is set for 2 p.m.
