Hammond, La. –
Southeastern Louisiana won game two of the three-game series against Texas State on Saturday at Alumni Field by a score of 8-1. The Lions benefitted from four Texas State errors as the Lions pulled away early and never trailed for the second straight game.

Texas State dropped to 20-14 overall and 8-9 in the Southland Conference with the loss, while Southeastern Louisiana improved to 24-11 overall and 10-7 in league play.

Four Bobcat errors between the third and fourth innings led to eight runs (five unearned) as Southeastern Louisiana chased Texas State starter Colton Turner from the game after just 3 1/3 innings. Turner exited after allowing three earned runs on five hits while striking out five. He dropped to 3-2 overall this season with the loss.

Hunter Lemke (2/3 innings), Taylor Black (2 innings) and Louis Head (2 innings) combined to keep the home team off the scoreboard over the final 4 2/3 innings of the game.

Lions starting pitcher Jordan Hymel (5-2) earned his fifth win of the season after limiting Texas State to three hits and one run over seven innings on the mound.

The lone Bobcat run of the game came from a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Stumph in the fourth inning that brought home Casey Kalenkosky for a 5-1 score.

One inning later, the game was delayed for 30 minutes after Stumph, the Texas State catcher, collided with the backstop while chasing a foul ball. The junior was taken off the field for precautionary tests as the game resumed with a score of 8-1 that would remain the rest of the way.

Senior Jeff McVaney extended his hitting streak to 18 games as part of a 2 for 4 day at the plate to lead the Texas State offense. Tyler Sibley, Colby Targun and Kalenkosky also recorded hits on the day for the Bobcats.

The series finale between Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Field in Hammond, La. The Bobcats will turn to RHP Kyle Finnegan (4-2, 2.86) for his ninth start of the season.
