Five Bobcats Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Five Texas State baseball student-athletes were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Wednesday, Earning the honors were Brady Boles, Kyle Froehlich, Cade Smith, Jaquae Stewart and Jesus Tovar.

To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, student-athletes must have competed in 90% of the team's games or started at least 66% of the program's contests. For pitchers, they must make either 17 appearances or pitch at least 25 innings. They also must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Boles finished the season batting .258 with five doubles and two home runs. Both of his round trippers came later in the season with his first coming in a series opening shutout of Marshall and his second being a two-run shot that tied the game of an eventual Bobcat victory over USC in the College Station Regional.

He also scored 19 runs, totaled 17 RBI and stole four bases. The sophomore drew 20 walks and was plunked eight times on his way to posting a .372 on-base percentage.

Froehlich began the year as TXST's Friday night starter for the first nine weeks before moving to the bullpen. The right-hander finished the campaign with a 4-2 record, two saves, a 4.68 ERA, 65 strikeouts and allowed just six walks in 59.2 innings spanning 22 contests.

The graduate student claimed Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors after throwing five shutout frames with eight strikeouts in the season opener against Niagara. He also recorded a 10-strikeout performance in the series opener against Louisiana and punched out eight in five innings of relief at Southern Miss.

Smith appeared in a staff-high 25 games on the mound that included six starts. He recorded a 4-3 record, 4.43 ERA and struck out 41 over 63.0 innings. The right-hander issued only eight free passes and ranks sixth nationally allowing just 1.14 walks allowed per nine innings. He is also 28th in the country with a 5.13 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Stewart, an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection, tied for the team lead with 16 home runs this season. Four of his long balls were grand slams, which set a new Bobcat single-season record. He also paced the team with 54 RBI and being hit by a pitch 14 times while sharing the lead of 33 walks.

Twice during the 2026 campaign he recorded multi-homer contests. The first time saw him hit two homers at Georgia State in the series opener. Stewart would smack three long balls and drive in eight runs in the series finale against Troy back on Apr. 11.

For Tovar, this is his second academic all-district honor after being named to the team last year. The left-hander led Texas State with nine victories on the mound. It was the most by a Bobcat hurler since 2012 and is tied for the 10th most wins in a season.

The El Paso native made a staff-high 13 starts and appeared in five games out of the bullpen. He recorded his lone save of the season, and the first of his career, in the series opener against the Thundering Herd in which he tossed three shutout frames and punched out four batters.

Tovar earned his first Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week accolade after the second weekend of the season. He threw eight scoreless innings and struck out six in a victory in the series finale over future Pac-12 Conference opponent Gonzaga. That was during a stretch in which he did not allow a run over the first 23.2 innings of action.
