Austin, Texas –
The largest crowd ever to witness a midweek game at UFCU Disch-Falk Field watched as No. 30 Texas defeated No. 20 Texas State, 6-1, on Tuesday night in Austin. The Bobcats fell behind early and were never able to get their bats going as they suffered their largest defeat of the season.

Texas (7-8) improved to one game under .500 with the win, while Texas State (11-5) dropped its second game in the last three days following an eight-game winning streak. The Bobcats have now lost 14 straight games against the Longhorns.

Texas State, which entered the game with the nation's best ERA at 1.50, allowed more than five runs for just the second time this season.

Louis Head (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the Bobcats after allowing three runs (two earned) over 3 1/3 innings. The junior struck out four in his first start of the season.

Head coach Ty Harrington used six relievers over the next 4 2/3 innings. Covey Morrow and Garrett Shepperd both tossed scoreless frames out of the Texas State bullpen.

Texas starter Parker French (2-0) earned his second win of the season for the home team.

Tyler Sibley began the game with a leadoff triple but was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a grounder from Casey Kalenkosky to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard in the first inning. The Longhorns were then able to manufacture a run in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of a pair of walks and an RBI single for a 1-0 advantage.

The Bobcats then gave up an unearned run in the third, the team's fifth unearned given up over the past three games, to go down by a 2-0 score after three innings.

The home team added a run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth for a 6-0 lead after five innings.

The Bobcats' lone run of the game came in the seventh inning when a balk allowed Jeff McVaney to come home from third for a 6-1 count.

Sibley, Kalenkosky, Ben McElroy and Cody Perkins accounted for the team's four hits on Tuesday evening.

Texas State will return to Bobcat Ballpark for Southland Conference action this weekend against Stephen F. Austin. The two teams will play Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
