San Marcos, Texas – Tonight was a rough night for the Texas State softball team as it dropped its doubleheader to UTSA at Bobcat Field. The Roadrunners captured the first game 5-1 in extra innings, and then returned in game two to garner a seventh inning victory. The Bobcats fall to 26-22 overall and 17-9 in conference play. The Roadrunners improve to 27-24 and 17-12 in league play.

Despite recording nine hits in the game, Texas State softball began the I-35 Rivalry series with a 5-1 loss to UTSA.
Starting pitcher Anne Marie Taylor began the game with three strikeouts in the first two innings, but UTSA took a one-run lead in the second inning after Humpal helped her own cause by hitting a solo homerun.
The Bobcats got their first hit of the game in the second inning when Jenna Emery singled up the middle. Emery was left stranded, however as the Bobcats could not capitalize.
Texas State had runners in scoring position in the third and fifth inning, but it was unable to tally any runs.
Alaniz came in to pitch for Taylor in the seventh inning. Taylor finished the game with seven strikeouts. The Roadrunners threatened to increase their lead in the top of the seventh by loading the bases, but Alaniz got out of the jam.
In the bottom of the seventh, Chandler Hall hit a double to right field to get the tying run on base for the Bobcats. Coralee Ramirez came in to pinch run for Hall, and scored when Anna Hernandez singled to right. The hit was Hernandez's 23rd RBI of the season.
The tie was broken up in the top of the eighth inning by four consecutive solo homeruns for UTSA, putting the game at 5-1.
The Bobcats attempted a valiant comeback, but came up short leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth.
UTSA fought back to edge Texas State 10 hits to nine. Three Bobcats registered two hits each. Texas State pitcher Crystal Alaniz was saddled with her third loss, while UTSA's Emily Humpal earned her tenth win of the season.

Texas State was stunned again in the final inning of the second game of the doubleheader, losing 5-3.
Ashley Kappler started the game off for UTSA with an RBI double to give the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead.
Haley Lemons got things going for the Bobcats in the first inning as she led a three-hit rally with a single up the middle. McKenzie Baack followed with one of her own. Anna Hernandez singled as well to load the bases. Jenna Emery nearly hit a grand slam, but it fell just shy of leaving the outfield, stranding the runners.
After a quiet second and third inning, the Bobcats took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Emery hit a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. Short after, Allyce Rother hit a homerun over the left field wall to give the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
