San Marcos, Texas –
In the Bobcats first extra-innings game of the 2011 season, the Texas State baseball team fell to visiting Missouri, 3-2, on Wednesday night in front of 1,168 fans at Bobcat Ballpark.

An unearned run for the Tigers in the top of the 11th inning proved to be the difference as Missouri improved to 13-12 overall this season. Texas State loaded the bases in the bottom of the 11th but could not bring home the tying run as the team dropped to 17-7 this season.

Kelly Fick (1-0) earned his first win of the season for Missouri, while Dylan Adamek (2-1) was charged with his first loss of 2011.

Texas State pitchers struck out 12 Tigers for the game, while just one Bobcat went down on strikes Wednesday night.

Juniors Tyler Sibley and Jeff McVaney each had three hits for the Bobcats to lead the team. Sibley extended his hitting streak to a Texas State record 27 games as he reached base five times in the game.

Texas State starter Pitts shut down the Missouri offense through the first four innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four. But in the fifth, the Tigers broke through with a run on a sacrifice fly from Connor Mach brought home the first run of the game for a 1-0 Missouri lead.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bobcats tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly from Andrew Stumph. Casey Kalenkosky reached base on an error with one out before a Jeff McVaney single to right moved Kalenkosky to third, setting up Stumph for his 14th RBI of the season.

Texas State reliever Tyler King kept the Tigers off the scoreboard in the sixth and seventh innings, recording a pair of strikeouts in the process, before the Bobcats took their first lead in the bottom of the seventh following Missouri's third error of the game. Sibley singled to center with two outs and stole second base to give Texas State a runner in scoring position. Cody Gambill came up next and hit a grounder to the second baseman who short-hopped the throw to first, allowing Gambill to reach and Sibley to score for a 2-1 Texas State lead.

The Tigers would string together three hits in the top of the eighth inning to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the ninth inning.

In the ninth, Sibley reached with his third single of the game and stole second base to put the winning run in scoring position, but the Tigers were able to induce a fly out and ground out to force extra innings.

The score remained tied until the top of the 11th inning when the Tigers scored an unearned run to take a 3-2 lead. Isaac Nuti started the Texas State half of the 11th with a single to center field before Clint Vest sacrificed him to second to put the tying run in scoring position. A pair of walks to Sibley and Joey Fuda loaded the bases with two outs, but the Tigers escaped with a 3-2 win after getting a ground out to close out the game.

The Bobcats return to action this weekend with a three-game set at Bobcat Ballpark against Stephen F. Austin beginning on Friday, April 1.
