Waco, Texas – The Texas State baseball team used 16 hits to propel its offensive attack and hand No. 16 Baylor its worst defeat in two years, beating the Bears 13-2 Tuesday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark. The loss was the worst for the Bears since April 8, 2009 when Dallas Baptist handed Baylor a 16-3 defeat also in Waco.

After giving up a run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, the Bobcats responded quickly putting runners on second and third with no outs in the top of the second thanks to a Casey Kalenkosky double. Corey Falvey sent a single into left before Cody Gambill lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Kalenkosky and make it 2-1. Texas State rounded out the scoring on a Tyler Sibley single to right, putting runners at the corners and giving the Bobcats a 3-1 lead.

Texas State threatened again in the third, chasing Baylor starter Tyler Bremer from the game after loading the bases with one out. Corey Falvey cleared the bases on a blooper to center that Baylor center fielder Brooks Pinckard dove for and missed, enabling the ball to get behind him and allowing the Bobcats to all come home and have Falvey end up at second. He then scored on Gambill's single to right to make it 7-1.

The Bobcats did more damage in the top of the fifth putting runners on second and third with one out. Kalenkoski scored on a passed ball and Isaac Nuti crossed the plate on Gambill's single up the middle.

Kalenkoski ripped his second double of the game in the top of the sixth, lining a shot into right-center. He brought in two runs with his rope, and put the Bobcats up 11-1.

The top of the seventh completed the scoring for Texas State. Bret Atwood sent a single down the left field line to bring in Andrew Stumph before Jeff McAvaney had a double to right center, bringing in Tyler Sibley.

Kalenkoski finished the day 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. He has now scored at least one run in every game this season.

Picking up the win for the Bobcats was Travis Ballew. He allowed one run on two hits in three innings of work for his first career college victory in 15 appearances.

Texas State returns to the diamond on Friday at 4:00 p.m., as the Bobcats begin Southland Conference play with a three-game set at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
