SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Texas State women's soccer was well represented on the international stage as senior and El Salvador team captain
Victoria Meza alongside Bobcat alumni Mya Ulloa and Juana Plata helped the El Salvador Women's National Team secure a bronze medal on Thursday at the Central American and Caribbean Games at Cibao FC Stadium.
The El Salvador squad opened its tournament run with a 2-1 pool play record with victories over the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, but dropped its second match to Venezuela as members of Group A. El Salvador would go on to drop its semifinal match to Mexico before today's redemption victory over Venezuela secured the bronze medal. Mexico and Columbia are set to play the gold medal match.
Meza, just this week named to the Defenders to Watch list by United Soccer Coaches, served as a team captain for El Salvador and netted two of the teams five goals across 480 minutes and five matches to grow her international resume. Meza would score the team's second goal of the day which would prove to be the difference by a 2-1 score over Venezuela to claim the bronze medal. Meza tallied five more career caps on the El Salvador Women's National Team as she enters her fourth season with the Bobcats and fresh off of a 2025 First Team All-Conference selection, paired with the Most Outstanding Player award at the 2025 conference tournament.
Mya Ulloa, a Texas State graduate and four-year letterwinner from 2020-24, finished the tournament taking five shots, two of which on target across 398 minutes. During her time as a Bobcat, the Irving, Texas native earned three conference Honor Roll awards, one Dean's List award, alongside her 2024 All-Conference Tournament team selection.
Texas State alumni Juana Plata started all five matches on El Salvador's back line, logging 438 minutes while helping the squad earn a bronze medal. Plata also contributed offensively with five shots, including three on target. Plata wore the Bobcat uniform in 2022 as a graduate student, where she garnered United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-Southeast Region.
