Bobcats Battle Beavers to 3-3 Draw

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Texas State (7-3-3, 0-2-1) and Oregon State (1-9-4, 0-1-2) traded blows and battled to a 3-3 draw in their first-ever meeting on Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.

Redshirt senior Nina Norshie did not waste any time and struck for a pair of goals inside the first 10 minutes of play. Jenny Ngankem deposited a perfectly placed ball across the 18-yard box from a set piece, allowing Norshie to one-touch into the net in the 7th minute. Matsuri Tsutsui dished a corner kick in just two minutes later, and a similar strike from Norshie secured a quick brace for an early Bobcat lead. Tsutsui's team-best sixth assist puts her one shy of the conference lead.

The Beavers proved to be unfazed by the early Bobcat scoring as they battled back by cutting the deficit in the 37th minute. A second connection in the 43rd minute snuck into the bottom left of the net and leveled the score into intermission at two apiece. The Beavers placed five shots on frame through the first period compared to the Bobcats' three.

Oregon State kept its momentum and scored once more in the 70th minute to take its first lead of the afternoon. The Bobcats responded quickly in the 72nd minute when Jenny Ngankem struck for her third goal of the season on a direct shot from a free kick placement about 23 yards out. The junior marks the second match this season with an assist and a goal in the same contest.

By the numbers, Texas State was outshot 17-10 and 9-5 on target, despite taking 15 corners to the Beavers' six. The keepers for both sides now land in a tie for the conference lead in saves at 62 apiece, following a six-save day for Caitlyn Draper, who surpassed her career-most in a single season in the contest.

QUOTABLE
Head Coach Steve Holeman
"Oregon State is much better than their record, but with that said it's a disappointing result. We obviously did extremely well with our set pieces but our overall defending was inconsistent. Three goals should have been enough to get three points. We'll take a close look at this game and move forward."
