HOUSTON, Texas— Texas State track and field wrapped up competition Saturday at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight, hosted by Rice University, recording multiple event titles and top-five finishes across the one-day meet.
"This was a great opportunity to compete back in Texas after being on the road last week," said Head Coach
John Frazier. "We were able to come away with several strong regional qualifying marks, and it was rewarding to see our athletes continue improving on their performances."
The Bobcats were highlighted by a series of first-place performances in both field and track events. In the men's high jump, senior Aiden Hayes cleared 2.24 meters (7-4.25) to claim the event title, while Tshephang Dankuru added a fourth-place finish at 2.12 meters (6-11.50).
Caden Ohara secured another victory in the men's pole vault, clearing 5.25 meters (17-2.75), and Giovonni Walker continued the momentum in the jumps with a first-place finish in the men's long jump at 7.59 meters (24-10.75).
In the throws, Sophia Haberer led the women's shot put with a winning mark of 15.87 meters (52-0.75), while Adam Carter placed second in the men's shot put with a throw of 17.80 meters (58-4.75).
Hannah Kemele added a pair of top-three finishes, placing third in the shot put (14.30m/46-11) and third in the javelin (47.32m/155-3). Lesedi Khunou recorded a third-place finish in the women's discus at 44.52 meters (146-1).
Texas State also saw strong performances in the horizontal jumps, with Damacio Hooks finishing second in the men's triple jump (14.17m/46-5.75), Christian Soungie placing third (14.10m/46-3), and Kennedy Jacquet taking third on the women's side (11.97m/39-3.25).
On the track, the Bobcats continued their success with several event wins. David Richards claimed the men's 110-meter hurdles title in 14.45 seconds, while Ja'Shaun Lloyd led a dominant showing later in the evening with a win in the 110-meter hurdles (13.86) after also capturing the 100 meters in 10.39 seconds.
Drew Donley added a second-place finish in the men's 200 meters (20.74), while also placing fourth in the 100 meters (10.47).
Victoria Amiadamen posted a first-place finish in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.30 seconds, followed by Siena Farrell in second (1:01.37).
Mihajlo Katanic added another victory for the Bobcats in the men's 400-meter hurdles, clocking 51.26 seconds.
In the women's sprints, Sai Brookins captured the 100-meter title in 12.22 seconds, with Sanaa Washington placing third (12.39). Mia Gonzalez also contributed a third-place finish in the women's 100-meter hurdles (14.79).
In middle-distance action, Kathryn Evans earned a runner-up finish in the women's 800 meters with a time of 2:12.35, while Alexia Macias placed fourth in the women's 1500 meters (4:29.39). Eyan Calico added a fourth-place finish in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase (9:32.36).
Texas State will continue its outdoor season as it prepares for the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, with the postseason approaching in the coming weeks.
