WALNUT, Calif.— Texas State track & field delivered a strong showing at the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational, highlighted by a national-record performance and multiple podium finishes across elite competition.
"This was a very productive trip to California for our team," Texas State head coach
John Frazier said. "We had a lot of athletes step up against strong competition and perform well. This trip put us in a great position as we prepare for our conference championship in about a month."
At the Mt. SAC Relays, Elisabet Runarsdottir headlined the weekend with a first-place finish in the women's elite hammer throw, recording a mark of 72.89 meters.
The throw broke the Icelandic national record for the second time this season, while ranking No. 2 in the NCAA and No. 3 in program history.
Lara Roberts joined her atop the podium placements with a third-place finish in the same event at 66.64 meters.
On the track, Ja'Shaun Lloyd turned in one of the top performances of the meet, placing second in the elite section of the men's 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 13.42 seconds. The mark ranks third in Texas State program history.
In the women's sprints, Paige Archer finished 15th in the elite 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72 seconds, while Victoria Amiadamen placed 16th in the elite 400-meter hurdles at 59.79 seconds.
In the field events, Daniel Strooh posted a seventh-place finish in the men's elite discus throw with a mark of 56.99 meters.
Tshephang Dankuru cleared 2.15 meters to place fifth in the men's elite high jump, while Manfred Mannamaa recorded an eighth-place finish in the men's elite hammer throw at 63.77 meters.
Sophia Haberer added a ninth-place finish in the women's elite shot put with a throw of 15.40 meters, and Marius Numrich placed ninth in the men's collegiate hammer throw at 56.68 meters.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Elias Palmer recorded a time of 3:57.58 in the men's 1500 meters, while Alexia Tiscareno Macias finished 19th in the women's 1500 meters with a time of 4:27.39.
Texas State will continue its outdoor season next week at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight in Houston, Texas as competition intensifies heading toward the postseason.
